Yetserday was a very special day for most people as it was Valentine's day. But for my friends, Warren and Danielle, it was an even more special day.

They chose an absolute stunning day in Cape Town to say their vows.

They had the ceremony and the reception at Hillcrest Estate just outside Durbanville.

I was not the most professional photographer around, as I was taking photos while crying. Don't get me wrong, they were tears of happiness. To see two people so in love, and to know that they were made for each other was just one of those perfect moments. For me, the whole day was like that. A perfect day!

Maternity Photographer - Cape Town

This beautifull couple contacted me last year November for a Maternity Shoot. The lovely mommy to be told me that they are from Namibia, and that they will be visiting Cape Town in early December, and she would love to do a Maternity shoot. Unfortunately at that stage her gorgeous little bump was just that. A little bump. She contacted me again late December and we arranged for to have their shoot done during late January.

We booked the shoot for yesterday. I really enjoyed myself, as we had a lot of laughs, but even more intimate moments between two stunning young individuals that share a love so passionate and strong.

Personally it was a WOW feeling for me to know that they traveled from Namibia to have photos taken. And they chose me to capture their perfect love for each other.

I must commend this daddy to be, as he has the world of patience. And not just with his gorgeous wife, but with a very demanding photographer (that's me ;-))!

Thank you for choosing me to capture this wondrous journey into parenthood! I loved our session and can't wait to see you again!

A day at the beach

As this was the last weekend before school and work obviously started, we decided to make the most of the beautiful weather and we went to the beach on Saturday.

I saw the moon at about 12:oo the afternoon, and could not resist taking a photo of it. This was taken in broad daylight, in harsh sun, so I was pleasantly surprised today when I opened the photo. No photoshopping was done except for making it smaller for the web.

And yes, I could also not resist taking photos of the seagulls.

and we were treated to a show from the Discovery Medicopter as well!

Unfortunately the sea was a bit rough, so there was no actual swimming in the sea. The children did play a little in the waves. As you can see, I am really strict when it comes to covering up for the harsh sun, so they wear protective clothing as well as hats. And this is not just for the sea, same rules apply for the pool at home. I also use a SPF 50 sunblock on them.

And what will a trip to the beach be without building something?

Annibelle is a beautiful child, but never ask her to pose for a photo while she is busy doing something. This is her response....

And Nathan will ALWAYS smile...

Drakenstein Lion Park

We visited the Drakenstein Lion Park yesterday. A drive of approximately 30 minutes from Cape Town, will land you in the beautiful valley of Paarl, which is part of the Cape Winelands.

As you can imagine, the park is worth a stop, and not just for international visitors. I can assure you, that even if you are from South Africa, you will still enjoy a visit to the Park alot.

My children enjoyed it tremendously, even though it was very hot and windy. As you will see from the photos that will follow, it was in full sun, and for some of these Lions (two were only rescued last month) are still struggling a little bit in the heat.

Yet, I think to them the heat is much more bearable than being held captive in a small dungeon like cave where they came from before they were rescued.

Even if you are not an animal lover, these creatures has the enigmatic power to literally bring you to your knees. Majestic, awesome, powerfull, magnificent etc. There is not enough words to describe these animals to you. You walk through the camps where they have been set free, and your legs gets tired, but you can't stop. I felt like a child that was let loose in a candy store. I wante to run from the one enclosure to the next and back to the previous one.

At one stage, the one male starting roaring, and my word.... To hear that, to feel that.... It is indescribable!

The Lion Park is extremely affordable, from the entrance fee to the snacks and food that are for sale. We even bought the children each a small lion, as it was so affordable.

Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays at four in the afternoon the lions are fed. We did not know what to expect, but was quite excited. They are fed chicken (dead ones). We had a good laugh at the KFC Lion Park way!

Between my husband and myself we took more than 300 photos, so I am going to show you a lot of photos!

And while they were being fed, a few predator birds were making the rounds for the left overs.

A Walk in the park

Having young children means no late sleeping. So we ended up at a nearby park, feeding the ducks and other feathered friends.

As you can see, these birds are so tame, they actually feed from your hand.

I had my last photo shoot for 2009 yesterday. This was a very special photo shoot for me, as I have known these two for some time now. Their grand mother is like my second mother, and this was part of her birthday present (also yesterday) from me.

They stay in Gauteng, and this was their first visit in two years. It was a very special visit, and I know my dear friend will treasure these memories for the year coming, until they can visit again next year this time.

What was absolutely amazing was how grown they both got. Not grown as in big, but mature. Even little Niki that is now a lovely young lady. I commented to Angie during our shoot that I can actually see how their relationship grew over the past two years.

Thanks you two for a wonderful shoot. Angie, good luck with your last year at school. You are going to rock girl!!!!

2009 has been one of the toughest years ever for me and my family, and with the grace of God, we are standing on the eve of 2010, and we are so blessed. My family are on the brink of a new bigger future for us. 2010 is going to be tough year for us, but I am sure, we are going to be able to stand here, a year on from today, and be able to say that once again, God has carried us through the year, and He has blessed us once again.

This Saturday Natalie came to visit me. I met her through a mutual friend. She is a lovely person, and her children are adorable!

We had such fun, and once again, her children LOVED the kittens. So much so, that I had to ask DH to take them to the garage, just so that we could finish the shoot. :-)

I have been busy during December, I just haven't had the time to update my blog, so here goes....

Sharmira stays with us. She is my housekeeper's daughter. She is now 6 years old, and attend the same school as Annibelle my daughter. They differ three days, so basically they are growing up as twins. They also believe they are family, so who are we to teach them otherwise? It does become hectic sometimes though with two six year old's in the same house.

But that is the way we prefer things. HECTIC. :-)

After Sharmira, the Paulsen Family came for a visit.

It was an absolute blast taking photos of these two. They fell in love with my kittens (at that stage, they were only 1 week old and the eyes were starting to open on some of them). Mom and myself struggled to get them away from the kittens, and my other three cats. :-) But we eventually got some stunning photos of the children and mom!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the feedback that I got from mom. I don't think clients knows how much it means to get lovely feedback after a session! And the feedback that I got from her made my day!!!!

Christmas in Robertson

For the past five years, I have had the pleasure to celebrate Christmas with a special group of children. These children have become such an integral part of my and my family's lives. So much so, that Annibelle has asked on Saturday why we can't go and stay with them, because it is so nice having so many friends. The innocence of her question really struck a cord with me.

Back to my story! For the past five years, myself, Susan van Rooyen a collegue of mine, and a host of other collegues and friends have hosted an annual Christmas Party for the children at The Herberg Children's Home in Robertson.

I started the project precisely 6 years ago, where I wanted to give every child a Birthday present and also a Christmas Present, after reading in a magazine about a man that was also in a Children's home, and he never received a birthday present or a Christmas present. I contacted The Herberg Children's Home at that stage, but because it was allready too late for 2003, we decided to start off in the new year of 2004.

Now five years later, we have involved so many people with the children's home, that I cannot even start to name every one by name. I will need a seperate post just for that!

About three years ago, Edwin and his collegues from ABSA in Worcester Mall became involved and started sponsering the food, refreshments and entertainment for the children on our annual Christmas function. With such a team behind you, how can you not give these children the time of their lives?

The most organised house that I have ever seen! These toddlers lined up, got their food, and sat quietly enjoying there supper!

Enjoying a braai, as it is not everyday that they can enjoy a treat like this!

This event is one of the most anticipated events of the year, and as you can see from the few photos above, you will see why. We ensure that every child receives a present, specially chosen for him / her.

This year, my friend and her husband also decided that they wanted to get involved, and they actually bought every child a gift in the children's home. Thank you Riaan and Carla Kotze. You will never know what this means! Not for me, but for these children. Carla bought and individually packed all 123 gifts. Here she is busy giving out the presents to every child.

And now, a few photos, to show you how much talent there is amongst these wonderfull children.

Lastly before I finish, I would like to thank all the staff at The Herberg Children's Home. Every single person working there is a special kind of person. You show these children that there are more in live than being hurt and abandoned by those that is suppose to protect you. You show them that love comes naturally and that they don't have to do anything to earn it, that being a child is enough.

I can't visit Robertson witout crying. And everyone that knows me, knows that I just love crying. But this is different. It is easy to buy a child a gift. It is easy to give a child a gift. But I have learnt over the past fiv years, that these children love receiving these gifts, but the crave the interaction more. The love the attention and the interaction with people more than the gifts that they receive.

So today I am thankfull that I can share this journey that I am priviledged to be part of with all my visitors to my blog. I also now want to challenge you. Make a difference out there. Become involved. It does take time, and yes, most certainly it does take money. But the rewards that you receive is so much more.

Thank you for reading my post, and thank you to everyone that make our project successfull every year. I would love to name everyone, but I just cannot do that.

It was held at Spier at the deli. A Bedoiun Tent was specialy erected to help shelter the party from the terrible wind.

Lindie van Zyl from Crazy Chameleon and Blue Daisy Events was responsible for the gorgeous decor and setting of the party!

I had a stunning Boudoir shoot this weekend. And once again, I found that this is one photo shoot that every woman, mother, sister, friend must have at least once in her life.

This is not a photo shoot for a skinny model. No.... this is a shoot for real woman. Woman like you and me, that needs to see the real you, the person your partner fell in love with. The person you were before you became a mommy, the person you were before you started climbing the corporate ladder. The person that faces you every day when you get out of the shower. The real you!

One of my photos that I took yesterday during the SARS strike was published in the Cape Times today.

I cannot even begin to describe the feeling when I got a phone call from Aziz Hartley from the paper to ask if he can use of my pictures. It never even dawned on me that there is a possibility that one of my photos can be used.

When I received the email later on to confirm that my one photo will be used, I was both excited and scared.

I met a very special person (thanks Mel!) a few weeks ago, and she did such an awesome thing for my best friend. This may seem very criptic, but those in the know how, will know what I am on about!

I took a little break during July as we had a few birthdays during July, including mine. I also have been sick, and must still have surgery, but for now, I am back!

What a weekend!!!! I had the most gorgeous model around for a fun TFCD shoot. Leani and myself had a lot of fun, and even though this shoot took much longer than a normal shoot, I think it was worth the effort!

I have a LOT of photos to work through, so I think I need to stop yacking and start working.

So I have been searching for a funky camera strap in South Africa, but it seems that I will have to import one. Nope, I made my own!

So I will start making them to order. I will upload some fabrics later this month, and then I will be taking orders.

It is my daughter Annibelle's birthday on Wednesday. Due to the school holidays, we decided to have her party today.

I had to make her a Princess Jasmyne outfit, and even though it was freezing she wore it. And because mommy takes photos, I also had to take photos of her friends. Well, of the more camera friendly ones.

Eventually it did start raining, but it is not even worth mentioning.

I have been taking a little break. After 11 photo shoots in March, I decided to take a little space for my family. Keeping up with work during the week, being a mother of two as well as a part time photographer, does get a bit much.

But I could not wait these three weeks out without posting any photos. And even though it is Saturday afternoon in SA now, I am itching to get out my camera and shoot some pics. Even if it is just of my kids.

But alas, I am not going to. I have a hectic 7 weeks ahead of me booked to the brim, including two weddings.

So I think I need the break. :-))))

This little man is such a treat. I love him to bits!

Well to me it is one.

I am starting with Boudoir Photography.

Sometimes, we as mothers forget that before all of this, we were women. We were free to come and go as we pleased, came in at what hours of the morning etc.

Then we became mothers. Our priorities changed. Our perspective on life changed. Instead of buying sexy lingerie, you will look at the lingerie, and then drift on to the PJ's as the kids needs the PJ's more that you need that filthy expensive little bra and panty set.

So I am doing this for that reason. For those mother's that have lost themselves in parenthood.

Mostly women tend to say that they are too fat, too this, too that.

Well ladies, this is what you need to realise. You may be 10, 15 or even 25kg's over weight. But you are still a woman. You are still a wife, and still a lover.

How do you expect your husband to desire you in the most intimate way, when you can't fathom yourself actually wearing sexy lingerie? When you can't fathom doing something intimate for yourself and your husband.

Therefor I am now starting with Boudoir Photography.

To offer other women around Cape Town, to now come for a private photo shoot, and look at the stunning results afterward.

I have posted three sessions that I did the past weekend. I am currently pressed for time, so I will come post more of previous shoots.

And keep your eyes on my blog, for the announcement of my new website.

I really hope this will be as empowering for some women as it is for me.

I am receiving an overwhelming response to my competition that I launched in December.

I have people as far as Gauteng and KZN forwarding the mails! WOW!!!!

At the moment, I have received a total of 2 779 mails.

I have tried to answer ever single mail in person, but being only human, and a mom with busy bodies around me, I may have missed some.

I will still be collecting email addresses until Friday afternoon, and I will then do the draw over the weekend.

I will then announce the winners on my blog, but will also be sending out mails to everyone!

I just want to thank everyone for sending these mails out!

So it is 2009. I can't believe today is the 20th allready, and Annibelle and Sharmira is starting Grade R tomorrow.

And like the rest of Cape Town, I still haven't really bought them anything. So today we have to do some shopping, but seeing that I haven't posted on my blog for like.... uhm months, I thought it best just to drop in quickly.

I am hosting my first competition since I started my photography journey, and the response is absolutely over whelming. Never in my wildest dream did I ever think I would actually get such a response.
